We recommend flying into the San Francisco Airport (SFO) instead of San Jose because San Francisco has more airspace and the landing/take-off is a lot smoother!

You should be able to rent a car and pick it up at the airport.
Lodging
If you are planning to stay a while and tour the bay area, we recommend staying in Sunnyvale, Mountain View, or Los Altos. It is hard to find a bad neighborhood in these cities.
